‘Make A Film And Then Watch It In An Afternoon’ @ Blank Studios
Rosie lead an afternoon workshop that involved participants planning, shooting and screening a short ‘one-take wonder’ film in a single afternoon. Held at Blank Studios as part of its May Festival House programme, ‘The Exchange’, the location and surrounding area was used as a do-it-yourself film studio and the emphasis was on experimentation, improvisation and a lot of fun being had by all.
'Being Digital' Exhibition @ Harbour Arm Gallery, Margate, Kent
Rosie was invited to show one of her films 'Lost In Screens' at this exhibition which coincided very nicely with the opening of the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate on 16th April. Harbour Arm Gallery is right next door to the Turner handily enough.
Animation and Film Easter School @ Chesworth Arts Farm
Following the success of last August's Summer School Rosie ran another 4-day course (assisted by Helen Goodwin and Charles Villiers) for 9-12 year olds at the beautiful Chesworth Arts Farm in Horsham. The theme this year was 'The Silent Movie' and focused more on techniques for combining animation with film. Participants spent 4 fun days writing, storyboarding, shooting and acting in their own ‘Silent Movie’, leading up to a premiere screening of the resulting film on the final day accompanied by a live soundtrack, written and performed by the children. 'Film Our Futures' Day Workshop @ The Brighton Women's Centre 10-3pm
Rosie and Janine Boyer will be running a free one-day workshop for women in basic film techniques in which we will explore layering film in order to interact with our 'future selves' on screen. Performance of 'Domestic Fitness' @ Coachwerks, Brighton
Following the exhibition of the re-worked version of 'The Domestic Fitness Training System' at Point Blank earlier this month, Rosie Holmes and CiCi Bumstein were invited screen the piece, along with a short live performance at Coachwerks' monthly evening of experimental creative works in progress, 'Fresh From The Oven'.
Photography and Seeing Retreat, with Rosie Holmes @ The Barn Retreat, Devon
Rosie will be running afternoon sessions at this retreat that will involve exploring photography from a mindfulness-based perspective. A small amount of technical learning will be offered to aid making the most of our cameras but the main emphasis will be on the creative side of image making and seeing and how this can be used as a tool for exploring the dharma and ourselves.

Point Blank : Direct Shots to the Heart @ Blank
Rosie will be showing some collaborative work made with artist CiCi Blumstein. As part of the 'Blank Season' of photography, this group exhibition of photography-related work by Blank artists is part of the Brighton Photo Fringe. Blank Gallery (108 North Street, Portslade) will be open 12-6pm Thursdays to Sundays between 28th October - November 7th. www.blankstudios.org
There will be a private view of the work on Saturday 30th October, 12-6pm, which will include refreshments and live performances - all welcome!
Exhibition of Short Film: 'Mirrored' @ Fringe Focus
Rosie recently joint-facilitated a participatory project for the 2010 Brighton Photo Fringe, along with artist Heather Tait. They worked with a group of young women based at 'Stopover', which provides supported housing to women in brighton & Hove aged 16-24. The resulting short film entitled 'Mirrored' will be exhibited October 22nd-31st at 'Fringe Focus',The Old Co-op building (London Road, Brighton). The private view for this piece will be saturday 23rd October 3-5pm. Refreshments will be provided and all welcome! http://www.photofringe.org/

Stop-frame Animation and Stories Summer School @ Chesworth Arts Farm
Rosie organised and ran (along with Helen Goodwin and Charles Villiers) a 4-day summer school in some creative uses of stop- frame animation for 9-12 year old children. This was held at Chesworth Arts Farm www.artsagri.com/site/index.php in Horsham. The rather excellent resulting animation 'The Fisherman and the Ifrit' can be viewed on the Community Arts page of this site.
Treehouse Projects
Rosie worked alongside artist Janine Boyer to run animation workshops for Treehouse, the national charity for Autism education. www.treehouse.org.uk The first was aimed at the parents of children with Autism at Pheonix Studios in Brighton in July and on August 5th & 6th they also ran 2 more days for Autistic children with their parents in Haringey, London.
